Welcome!

Welcome to the Cobequid Cultural Society web site. Please take a few minutes to look around and learn more about our organization and its members.

The Cobequid Cultural Society (CCS, originally and legally known as the Cobequid Cultural Centre of the Arts Society) was incorporated March 2nd, 2005. The Society is a community-based, non-profit, registered charitable organization that brings the people of the northwest area of Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding communities together in support of the arts. With our strong base of member organizations and volunteers, CCS will introduce hundreds of community members and visitors to the work of local and visiting artists, including visual artists, actors, writers, dancers and musicians.

Walter Regan

The arts are the best insurance policy a city can take on itself.

Woodt Dumas, former Mayor of Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Art is fundamental, unique to each of us... Even in difficult economic times - especially in difficult economic times - the arts are essential.

Maria Schriver, Award-Winning Journalist and Author

In my own philanthropy and business endeavours, I have seen the critical role that the arts play in stimulating creativity and developing vital communities... the arts have a crucial impact on our economy and are an important catalyst for learning, discovery and achievement.

Paul G. Allen, Co-Founder, Microsoft

We need people who think with the creative side of their brains - people who have played in a band, who have painted... it enhances symbiotic thinking capabilities, not always thinking in the same paradigm, learning how to kick-start a new idea, or how to get a job done better, less expensively.

Annette Byrd, GlaxoSmithKline

Politicians don't bring people together. Artists do.

Richard Daley, former Mayor of Chicago
