ENERGIES FOCUSED ON RESEARCHING OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
HALIFAX, October 15, 2010 – The Cobequid Cultural Society Board (CCS) announced today that it will not proceed with the enhancement to the new high school to be built for the Bedford/Hammonds Plains area.
At a recent CCS Board meeting the following motion was passed after careful discernment and consideration: “Move that we not proceed with the enhancement to the new high school to be built for the Bedford/Hammonds Plains area due to the significant deviation from the original Cobequid Cultural Centre of the Arts Society vision and proposal.”
“We are not prepared to settle for an art centre in a gymnasium or cafeteria as proposed by the HRM,” said CCS Spokesperson Walter Regan. “Therefore, we will not be partnering with the Department of Education, the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Halifax Regional School Board at this time. ” The CCS will however continue to pursue its vision of providing the people in the northwest area of the HRM with a unique cultural centre of the arts.” DOWNLOAD THE FULL PRESS RELEASE HERE.
The Original Vision of a classy arts training centre for students and a proper cultural venue for the larger community:
Cobequid Cultural Society since 2004 has been seeking a facility specially designed for the cultural arts to serve our area, the Cobequid region. This same area also served by the Cobequid Community Health Centre does not have a performing arts centre.
An opportunity now exists to develop an arts and cultural facility in conjunction with Department of Education's plans to replace CP Allen High School. The site for the replacement high school has not yet been announced.
The Cobequid Cultural Society needs to know your views about this opportunity and our exciting "vision so far" for a proposed cultural arts centre.
The "vision so far "- a multifunctional creative learning and performance centre serving the school and the Cobequid Region (Northwest HRM and beyond), based on a strong education and community partnership.
-
A place for theatre, music, dance, performance, school musicals, conventions, festivals, corporate and community events: "It's more than an auditorium!"
-
A meeting place that serves as a focal point in our area where people can gather and interconnect, close to home.
-
Inspired by the successful collaboration of all the communities that built the Cobequid Community Health Centre
